Koa Bich. Owner: Don Reeder
This guitar has a LONG story:
I had this guitar custom built by Jose Blas, the foreman of the BC Rich wood shop in 1983. I played it at gigs for about 2 years. After I left BC Rich I set up shop in Burbank. At that time I was still doing setup work for BC Rich, but I had moved from the BCR factory to my own shop. It was hard going at that time trying to start another business after 11 years of doing virtually only BC Rich work. Due to the fact that I was now in Burbank and BC Rich was in El Monte, I needed someone to do some pickup and delivery for me. Don Reeder was a good friend of mine and he volunteered. Don put hours of time into picking up and delivering BC Rich guitars for me on a weekly basis. He knew I couldn't pay him much and he helped me anyway. To make a long story short, I gave him this guitar for his efforts. When I gave it to him it was blue sunburst against a white background with silver glitter sprayed over everything. Yeah, 80's GLAM. Many years later I ran into Don at a club I was playing at and he told me he had loaned the guitar to a fried and it had gotten knocked off stage and basically totaled. SO, I told him to bring it to me and I'd see what I could do. Man, was it totaled. It sat in my shop for almost 10 years. Both of us figuring it was a total loss. Fast forward to 2003 when MCS got off the ground. We took another look at it and decided we COULD fix it, but it would never look the same again. Don didn't care, he just wanted it back and playing. So, between me and Chris Probst and Luis, over a period of another 3 years, we got it put back together.
The damage to the guitar was a broken headstock, completely fractured control cavity (you can see some filler in the crack where it was repaired)and just generally HURT.
We decided NOT to paint it a color again because the Koa was so nice. Not sure why I had it painted in the first place. Anyway, this is how it turned out. :-)
